It began with 113 applications… and at the end, 90 went through to the elimination rounds, and what a journey it was!
The elimination rounds, sponsored by Aon South Africa, were held in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg to give all contestants an equal and fair chance and to try and suss out the best from the rest. There was a good mix of contestants, all different, and all up for the challenge. As the last of the three rounds came to an end, it became apparent that the judges had a truly difficult task ahead of them in selecting the top 30.
Top 30
With flashbacks from the regional elimination rounds, Episode 1, sponsored by Discovery Insure, sees the top 30 contestants gathered at the Discovery building, for the final elimination round.
With judges Catherine Naidoo (Innovation Group), Christelle Colman (Ami Underwriting Managers), Darryl Grater (Discovery Insure), Lizelle van der Merwe (Financial Intermediaries Association (FIA), Mutoda Mahamba (Solvency), Nonnie Mhlungu (SHA Risk Specialists), Precious Nduli (Discovery Insure) and Wimpie Van Der Merwe (Global Choices) in tow, each team is provided with the brief of the day.
In the first task, the contestants are given a survivor-inspired challenge, involving a triangle. This, followed by task two, in which the teams are divided in groups tasked to come up with an insurance product for the under 30 market. The last task sees groups of two take on a topic in which to debate for or against.
Who will it be?
Only 10 contestants will be in the running to become The Insurance Apprentice of 2023, and for the rest… it’s goodbye!
