Overview

In line with evolving vehicle theft trends and innovative security technologies, Ami has updated its vehicle tracking requirements to include physical anti-theft immobilization devices as an accepted alternative in certain scenarios. This directive outlines the key changes and provides guidance for underwriting and broker communications.

Revised Vehicle Security Requirements

1. Updated Tracking Requirement

Vehicles with a retail or agreed value (including accessories) of R500 000 or more require either:

    • The installation of a satellite early-warning or similar tracking system by an approved tracking company; or
    • The installation of a physical anti-theft immobilization system (such as HaltLock Gen 4) that is approved by.

    2. High-Risk Vehicle Requirements

The following vehicles require enhanced protection irrespective of their value. Vehicles in

red require a double system (one proactive early-warning and one passive tracker):

    • Toyota Fortuner – All models
      • Toyota Prado 2018+ models
      • Toyota Hilux 2010+ models
      • Toyota Land Cruiser 2017+ models
      • Toyota Cross
      • Ford Ranger 2015+ models
      • Lexus LX (Cruiser)
      • Isuzu KB/D-Max
      • Toyota Etios – All models
      • Volkswagen Polo – All models
      • Nissan NP 200 – All models

For double tracker requirements: Ami may accept HaltLock Gen 4 as a replacement for the early-warning device, provided it is paired with a passive tracking unit (e.g., Beame).

    3. Approved Physical Anti-Theft Devices

    DeviceTypeApproval Conditions

*Active subscription with tamper alerts & live tracking.

    *Includes anti-hijack remote lock functionality.

    4. Preferred Passive Tracking Solution

Beame remains Ami’s preferred passive tracking solution for its non-intrusive installation, wide insurance acceptance, and industry-leading recovery rates.

      5. Cautions & Limitations

      • HaltLock does not replace location trackingin towing or physical removal scenarios.Ami reserves the right to request a passive tracker in addition to HaltLock for certain high-value vehicles
      • Any alternative anti-theft devices must be pre-approved by Ami’s Asset Risk Management team.
